Grandfather Mountain NC is offering Guided Hikes

NC Mountian Hiking

From early May to late August, interpretive ranger staff members lead guests on several hikes around the backcountry of Grandfather Mountain, while discussing the history of the mountain and the diverse ecosystems that make it unique.

Beyond just a trek into the backcountry, guided NC Mountain hikes at Grandfather Mountain provide guests the opportunity of open dialogue with a resident expert as they hike among some of the most stunning scenery on the East Coast.

"Grandfather Mountain is such a unique place, and to have a guided hike to the mountains highest peaks is especially amazing, said Chief Interpretive Ranger Gabe Taylor.

The first hike of the season is the "Spring to MacRae" Hike. This May 4 hike is designed to offer participants both the excitement of a trip to MacRae Peak, as well as the opportunity to witness life coming back to Grandfather after a long winter slumber.  Hikers will traverse 0.9 miles, using cables and seven ladders to gain almost 600 feet in elevation. The half-day hike begins at 9 a.m. "This first hike allows guests to witness life returning to the mountain, Taylor said. "After being inside throughout the cold winter, people can finally get out in the great outdoors to watch spring flowers bloom.
